Exercise: Grounding

The need to ground ourselves helps us to remain centred and open, yet firm in our committment to ourself and our needs, while remaining empowered in who we are. With so many distractions bombarding us each day it is easy to get lost, it is also easy to get lost in our own thoughts and spend to much time 'in our head' when we need to be brought back to ground and from this solid place move forward in our day.

taking a few moments when needed to realign into our centre, strengthens and ensures that we remain on strong footing. There are a few different yet easy exercises to help with grounding.

Upon awakening take a moment to sit either in a chair with your back straight feet firmly on the ground. Make sure your legs or ankles are not crossed. Imagine a cord or pipe going from your centre all the way into the core of the earth. Feel how wide and strong this is for you. What is it made of? The cord or pipe acts as a channel that connects you to the core of the earth. Take a moment to ask the Earth how she is feeling today.

Feel the strength of the earth connected to you. The support of this Earth holds you up. Now allow any negative thoughts and beliefs and any negativity that is held in your body to release and run out of your body, down the cord or pipe into the centre of the earth. Let it all go. As it runs out of your body into the Earth it is transmuted so the negativity changes form. continue this until all negativity has left your body. Thank Mother Earth for supporting you today.

Any time you feel you need to get grounded quickly, imagine this connection to Mother Earth pulling you back and your energy back toward the earth, take a few slow and conscious breaths as you focus on this energy and feel yourself getting grounded again.

Connecting with Mother Earth
Feeling the Earth

Find a quiet space outside where you will not be disturbed. If possible stand with your feet directly on the earth or, if inside, be aware of the earth under the floor that you stand on and is supporting you. Feel your deep connection to the earth through your feet. Standing with arms by your side, slowly raise your arms straight out and above your head. As you raise your arms and breathe in, breathe in from the earth and feel the energy of the earth pass up through your body. With arms outstretched above your head, hold this position for 60 seconds and imagine the earth moving through your body, up your legs, torso, arms and head. Feel this solid connection. Gently release a breath as you move your arms back down beside your body and relax them. Repeat this exercise three times feeling the earth move through your body as you breath in and raise your arms above your head. Then gently relax, placing your arms back by your side. When finished feel yourself 'earthed', connected and grounded again. From this sold place, give thanks and quietly move back into your day.

Each day as you walk upon the Earth be conscious of the steps you walk. If you have been rushed or are feeling 'flighty', reconnect with the Earth and pull yourself back to the groun. With each step feel your connection to Mother Earth. Feel the earth pull up through the ground and connect to your foot as it moves forward. Allow yourself to become connected and solid on the ground.
